About Course

In this chapter, we provide a brief introduction to the concepts of logistics and supply chain management. Considering different production factors, functions and processes in a company and across companies both terms are specified taking into account different definitions from the literature.

After that, a brief reflection of logistics history is given, followed by a discussion of the modern importance of logistics and supply chain management. The last section motivates the usage of advanced planning methods as discussed in later chapters of the book.

  • The primary objective of logistics management is to move the inventory in a supply chain effectively and efficiently to extend the desired level of customer service at the least cost as done parallel with waste management
